Michigan State Senator Steve Bieda represents the South Macomb communities. He
is a Democrat whose concerns are for the rights of workers and their families,
and for those wrongfully treated.
The senate bill sponsored by Senator Bieda,
Senate Bill 291, creating the Wrongful Imprisonment Compensation Fund,
passed the State House and Senate just before last Christmas. It was signed into
law on December 21, 2016. It took more than a dozen years, and plenty of hard
work and perseverance, to transform this goal into a reality.
Senator Bieda strongly believes there is too much money in politics and it is
corrupting our representative democracy.
Bills sent to Gov. Rick Snyder, passed by the GOP majority just before adjournment, would let candidates solicit unlimited contributions for
independent committees supporting their candidacies. The bills would codify and expand upon the 2010 Citizens United ruling.
